Near Kumi in eastern Uganda, the Nyero shelters carry geometric paintings — concentric circles, sets of dots and canoe-like shapes — in red pigment, attributed to Later Stone Age Batwa hunter-gatherers. They are among the most important rock-art sites in East Africa outside Tanzania.
